Reference Librarian/Web Content Specialist, SUNY Upstate Medical University

Position: Reference Librarian/Web Content Specialist
SUNY Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, NY

Compensation and benefits: Initial appointment will be at the rank of Assistant
Librarian (min. $40,000, depending on qualifications). Excellent benefits
package including TIAA-CREF and other retirement options. 12 month, tenure
track position with faculty status, entailing responsibilities for
scholarship and professional service.

Description: The Health Sciences Library at SUNY Upstate Medical University
seeks to fill the position of Reference Librarian/Web Content Specialist with an
innovative and dynamic individual with successful web content development
experience. The candidate will be forward thinking, motivated, flexible, and
excited to work in a collaborative, rapidly evolving team environment.

This position reports to the Head of Reference and Liaison Services.
Responsibilities include: reference duties and mediated searching; providing
library instruction including the development of web-based instruction;
management of public services content of the Library's website, including
development and updating subject specific web pages and editorial duties for
online library newsletter; assisting the Head of Reference & Liaison
Services with the expansion of reference services through the utilization of
social networking software and traditional outreach efforts; coordinate
collection development suggestions with faculty, including a current
awareness service for new resources.

REQUIRED: ALA accredited Master's degree in library or information
sciences; two years professional library experience, preferably in a health
sciences library (in lieu of professional library experience, two years
professional healthcare experience is acceptable). Additionally, the
candidate will posses a strong customer service orientation, demonstrated
expertise with mediated databases searching, experience with the utilization
of emerging technologies to deliver library services.

PREFERRED: Experience with evidence-based practice resources, demonstrated
service to the profession, and AHIP membership.

The HSL's current interests include partnering with the regional public
libraries, developing new collaborations with local, regional and SUNY
libraries, developing a Family Resources Center for the Children's
Hospital, promoting a culture of evidence-based practice, delivering HSL
services to satellite locations and unaffiliated health care practitioners,
and designing and delivering services in support of Upstate's Centers of
Excellence.
