Compensation and benefits: 12-month standard non-tenure track, non-faculty appointment. Excellent benefits package. Hiring range: $38,000 - $40,000. Reports to the Associate Dean of Learning Resources.
Description: Corning Community College, a member of the State University of New York system, serves approximately 3,200 FTE students primarily from its three sponsoring counties – Steuben, Chemung and Schuyler. The College is located in Corning, NY, in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of New York State, approximately 2 hours from Rochester or Syracuse, NY and 4 hours from New York City.
The Arthur A. Houghton, Jr. Library, located on the Spencer Hill Campus, is seeking a proactive, creative, technology-oriented librarian whose primary responsibilities include supporting remote learners, overseeing cataloging and serials and serving as a member of the Reference/Instruction/Collection Development team.
The Library staff is currently comprised of the Associate Dean of Learning Resources, two full time professional librarians (this position will increase the number to three), four support staff, and one part-time staff assistant. The Library also encompasses the Media Services and Instructional Technologies departments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Lead the development of library services to support remote learners:
-Identify, evaluate, and promote the use of current and emerging technologies in the library’s reference and instructional services. Technologies might include: online chat, instant messaging, podcasting, RSS feeds, course management systems like WebCT, social networking programs, wikis, blogs, online tutorials, etc.
-Coordinate the provision of library services for off-campus and web-based courses.
-Develop online information literacy tutorials.
-Explore, develop, and promote opportunities to integrate library resources and services into course management and online and remote learning initiatives.
-Develop and implement assessment programs to measure the effectiveness of library services to off- and on-site users.
-Oversee cataloging and serials functions, consulting with staff relevant to their responsibilities.
-Share reference and library instruction duties with other librarians. Supervise the Library one evening a week (current hours extend to 6 p.m.). Participate in the collection development process, assigned to subject areas and as a faculty liaison.
-Serve as the College resource for copyright.
-Participate in College-wide committee work and other areas as time permits.
-Advise the Associate Dean of Learning Resources and keep the Library staff informed of significant developments within the areas of responsibility.
-Perform other duties as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited program. Must have reliable transportation to drive to off-campus sites and to attend professional conferences. Generally tech-savvy. Willingness and interest in exploring new technologies. Excellent oral/written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills. Energetic, service-oriented, flexible, and able to work independently. Ability to collaborate with and motivate staff.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Understanding of rural community college students and environment. Some academic library experience. Some experience with reference and library instruction. Knowledge of online resources and communication tools, including course management software such as WebCT., including proficiency with current standard technologies such as instant messaging, blogs, etc. Ability to produce Web-based information/help pages.
