WEB SPECIALIST, Syracuse University

Position: WEB SPECIALIST
Syracuse University

Compensation and benefits: Rate of Pay Commensurate with experience.

Description: The role of a web specialist is to facilitate the use of web-based technologies to support divisional goals and enhance communications.

Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree or equivilent amount of education and experience, with college coursework in Web Programming
- At least one year of web related design and programming experience
- Proven record of excellent communication and customer service skills

Job Specific Qualifications:
Mandatory Skills and Experience
- Web site standards-based design and support
- Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility compliance and W3C standards
- Usability and prototype testing methods
- Intermediate skill level with standards compliant HTML 4.0 or XHTML 1.0
- Intermediate skill level with Cascading Style Sheets
- Intermediate skill level with client-side scripting (JavaScript preferred)
- Intermediate skill level with server-side scripting (PHP preferred)
- Familiarity with Web content preparation (esp. graphics, text)
- Ability to conceptualize and communicate complex Web projects and solutions
- Ability to communicate technical requirements to IT providers and developers

Additional Desired Skills
- Familiarity with graphics and AV design standards and programs
- Familiarity with document editing and proofreading
- Familiarity with content management and archiving systems
- Familiarity with application development and implementation
- Familiarity with database/Web application/CMS development
- Familiarity with Web stats and usage analysis and optimization

Physical Requirements
Responsibilities
- Design and maintain Divisional Web sites to meet accessibility and standard compliance requirements
- Use web-programming tools to provide dynamic functionality and links to databases
- Integrate web functionality into operations as required
- Recognize and resolve usability and accessibility issues
- Develop support workflows and processes as necessitated by unit
- Take a lead role pertaining to all web based technology within the Division
- Act as a liaison with other web technologists on campus
- Provide backup to desktop hardware/software support as needed
- Special projects as assigned by Director of Technical Services
