Position Summary and Responsibilities
= Vassar College seeks a dynamic, service-oriented and innovative librarian to provide leadership and vision for the development of its library collections.
= Reporting to the Library Director, the Collection Development Librarian will be responsible for the oversight of a 2.6 million dollar budget for collections in support of the College's educational mission, balancing the role of librarians and faculty expertise in the collection development process.
= The CDL will be responsible for developing a robust strategy for the cultivation and management of a balanced library collection as well as for setting collection development policies and goals and implementing ongoing collection assessment.
= As part of this mission, the CDL will be responsible for reviewing and strengthening the existing librarian liaison program.
= In addition, the incumbent will be expected to work with existing consortia and forge new collaborative partnerships that will assist Vassar in providing the best resources to its community.
= An essential part of the work of the Collection Development Librarian will include working as part of a team and collaborating with other professional partners within the library and at the College.
= Additionally, the incumbent will be asked to serve on the reference desk and teach in the library instruction program.

Qualifications
= Specialized advanced degree or equivalent; doctorate or equivalent degree preferred. MLS or equivalent degree highly desired.
= Two to three years experience in an academic library performing collection development and/or acquisitions responsibilities or directly related experience essential.
= Other essential skills include: excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to display imagination, ingenuity and humor in solving problems and working with people.
= We are seeking a candidate who understands the importance of the library collection in the academic life of the College. The successful candidate will have both an in-depth knowledge of the disciplines that constitute the liberal arts as well as demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging trends, issues and best practices in academic library collection development, scholarly communications and assessment.
