Jefferson Community College, located in Northern New York State near the shores of Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River, currently serves 3,600 students pursuing credit courses in both classroom and online environments in the areas of Liberal Arts, Science, and Business Divisions for transfer or career programs.
The College is conducting a search for an Assistant Librarian to coordinate reference services and circulation procedures. This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position beginning September 2008. The successful candidate will be part of a team of three librarians providing reference services, teaching information literacy classes, assisting with collection development, and serving on campus committees.
Required: Master of Library Science (MLS) or Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited (or equivalent) institution; 4 years of relevant professional experience; the ability to work with a diverse population; and strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
Preferred: Current experience providing reference services using online and print resources in a community college setting; experience teaching information literacy in an academic environment; experience with automated library management systems, especially Aleph 500.
