Description:

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is seeking interested candidates for the position of Assistant Photo Archivist. This is a full-time position with paid vacation/holidays, health/life insurance and retirement package. Candidates must have a master's degree in either library science, public history or museum studies. They should have 1-3 years in library or museum environment experience, photograph collection preferred. Cataloging and/or inventory experience. Knowledge of copyright law and experience with Photoshop. Good communication and computer skills, the ability to organize materials and basic knowledge of photography.

The Assistant Photo Archivist will assist the Photo Archivist with the acquisition, preservation and protection of a collection of 400,000 baseball images. They will work to appraise, arrange, describe and make available the photo collection. Supervise and handle all aspects of the photo department customer-service operation. Supervise the photo associate. Will arrange and describe collections, applies appropriate preservation techniques; assists researchers in locating images, responds to inquiries via e-mail, letters, faxes and telephone; records orders and calculates fees; retrieves and re-files materials. Manage photo archive in the absence of Archivist.

In consultation with the Photo Archivist, establishes policies, procedures and priorities for the photo archive; identifies and prioritizes items that require conservation, makes reformatting decisions; communicates with potential donors regarding the acquisition of new materials. Supervise the activities of library interns working the photo department. Assist other departments and related duties for Hall of Fame Weekend.
