Position: Manager of Digital Services and Resource Sharing

South Central Regional Library Council, Ithaca, New York

Description: The South Central Regional Library Council seeks an energetic and creative full-time person to manage the Digital Services and Resource Sharing programs. Management of Digital Services and Resource Sharing includes such regional digital and resource sharing efforts as the Tools of History digitization project, interlibrary loan and the required infrastructure, consortial purchases of digital resources, and training and continuing education in these service areas. The person selected is directly responsible for the management of these initiatives and will provide leadership to keep the programs on the cutting edge by incorporating new technologies and concepts.
SCRLC, www.LakeNet.org, is a multi-type library consortium providing programs and services to its 75 members and by extension to over 500 libraries of all types (academic, public, corporate, hospital, special, and school) in a 14-county area of South Central New York. The person selected will be part of a management team that assesses needs, plans and implements programs, and provides services to its member libraries and library systems. We seek, and hire staff with these attributes: creativity, customer orientation, flexibility, a tolerance for ambiguity, curiosity, excellent organization and communication skills, team-oriented, and a sense of humor.
Responsibilities: The Manager of Digital Services and Resource Sharing reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for:
• Management of the regional digitization project, Toolsofhistory.org.
• Management of the contracts and use statistics of digital resources made available to regional libraries through the Regional Bibliographic and Databases Program (RBDB).
• Oversight of resource sharing services such as last resort interlibrary loan (BARC), Docline, and the regional resource sharing subsidy.
• Oversight of delivery mechanisms supported by SCRLC such as UPS CampusShip.
• Plan SCRLC participation in regional, statewide, or national resource sharing collaborative efforts such as the IDS project, and Rethinking Resource Sharing.
• Administration of the partnership with WALDO and Britannica for purchases of electronic databases by regional libraries.
• Liaison with the Advisory Committees and User Groups for the above services and serves as liaison to School Library Systems.
• Maintains relationships and communication with Council members through visits, publications, etc. Provides advice and guidance to members as appropriate.
• Coordination of education and training activities related to these services.
• Other duties/projects as assigned and appropriate.
Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS; experience with OCLC, ContentDM, resource sharing processes; ability to initiate and develop services; and the ability to work independently and collaboratively, set priorities, and travel.
